How many yards of material do you need for a chair seat cushion for a kitchen table.?
I know I trace my seat and I have old cushions to use as a guide, but I found some material online and was wondering how much to order per cushion. Any seasoned semstresses gvie me an idea?
Sounds like you are making your own cushions, sewing top and bottom squares together and then stuffing them, am I right?
Most upholstery fabrics are 54″ wide. Now, I’ve never made my own (but I do sew), so I’m sort of guessing here. If you are ordering 54″ wide fabric, I would allow at least 3/4 of a yard per cushion. You should get 2 squares cut out side by side. Depending on the size squares you are cutting, you may get 3.
If you’re going to add a ruffle all the way around, you will need more. I would allow 1 1/8 to 1 1/4yard per cushion for ruffles.
If you are simply removing a seat and covering over the old fabric, 3/4 of a yard might get you 2 seats covered. If I were you, I’d go to Walmart and see if they have some 54″ wide fabric that is only $1.00 a yard and see what you can do with it before ordering expensive fabric.
